Iosif Iser

Iosif Iser

Iosif Iser (1881 – 1958), a Romanian painter of Jewish origin, inspired by expressionism, painted with thick lines and sharp angles, using a color palette dominated by earthy tones. In his mature period, Iser's painting includes scenes of life in Dobruja, featuring portraits of local Tatar people.

After traveling to Spain and the Orient, Iser adopted a luminous color palette with exotic undertones, and his compositions gained balance and monumentality. Later, he added to his collection a series of paintings depicting harlequins.
