Misu Popp (1827 – 1892) was a representative of Romanian academicism who mainly painted portraits and church paintings. Alongside his friends Constantin Lecca and the lithographer Carol Popp de Szathmary, Popp was part of the group of Transylvanian artists who significantly influenced Romanian painting in the 19th century.

Born into a family where all members were involved in the craft of painting, he was among the first Romanian artists with Western artistic education. He was the most talented and prolific Romanian Transylvanian painter of the 19th century, who studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna between 1846 and 1848.
